Welcome! Whether you've just moved to Newland, are just visiting, or have lived here your entire life, we're glad you're here and welcome you to join us as we seek to know and follow Jesus Christ. Our Services begin at 9 & 11. It is our hope that at Newland Presbyterian Church you will find a community passionately in love with Jesus Christ, and committed to receiving and giving his life. That begins, most powerfully, in Word and Sacrament.

At NPC, we treasure the Word that God has given as our principle guide for faith and life. As we open the pages of the Bible in the power of the Holy Spirit...we meet Jesus Christ. And nothing is more wonderful than meeting the Savior.

Mission

Come serve with us!
Anyone who spends time in Worship and in Scripture will be moved to participate in God’s mission. God is moving us beyond the doors of our church and into Newland and Avery County. So come with us, if you will. We need your help!

Our Story

God has faithfully led NPC since 1917. And the Father continues to lead us into the life of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit. In the past year, our worshipping community has continued to grow and life has been full. We've witnessed baptisms and births and marriages and new ministries leading us further into our community of Avery County. We continue to pray that the Lord would draw those into our midst that he desires to be part of His family, and we hope that means you! We'd love for your story to intersect with ours, as we find our place together in the story of the Triune God.

Crossnore School

The Crossnore School is a non-profit residential foster care home serving North Carolina children in crisis. Located in Crossnore, NC, the School is nestled on 85-acres in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains where staff provide a Christian sanctuary of hope and healing for children. We are so thankful for the opportunity to support this fine organization and the children they serve.

Kingdom Kids Daycare

Kingdom Kids Daycare, a special mission of Emmanuel Baptist Church, is located on the lower level of the Newland Presbyterian Church building. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide a safe place for these sweet children to learn and grow.

Reaching Avery Ministry

RAM is a cooperative effort by members of our community to address the needs of Avery County residents who struggle to provide for themselves and their families. By working together, RAM helps to provide emergency and long-term assistance to our neighbors. Last year alone, RAM supplied 2,689 people with over 30,000 meals, helped 301 families pay their utilities, assisted 80 families with special needs like rent, medicine and medical costs, and supplied back-to-school clothing and other items for over 200 children. God is good!

Avery County Missional Network (Backpack Program)

We are blessed to partner with the ACMN to provide weekly meals for the 280+ children in the Avery County Schools who go home each weekend to little or no food. The Weekend Backpack program is designed to supplement and enhance the Manna Food packs that the schools currently receive. The third Thursday of every month, Newland Presbyterian joins with the ACMN at 11am to prepare and pack food for families in need. Come join us anytime.

Guatemala Partnership

Through the Presbytery of Western NC, we are privileged to be in relationship with Star of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Coatepeque, Guatemala. This relationship is coordinated through the larger project of the Guatemala Partnership. Much of the project focuses on providing educational resources and healthcare to our brothers and sisters there, even as we pray for one another and experience fellowship together.

Habitat for Humanity

We love working with Habitat. And we receive joy from participating in a number of ways: providing food to workers, swinging hammers, and offering funds. All of these are great ways we hope to contribute to Habitat’s mission of “Seeking to put God’s love into action…bring[ing] people together to build homes, communities and hope.”

YoungLife Nicaragua

La Finca (The Farm) is a Young Life Camp/Coffee farm hidden in the mountains of Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Here, young Nicaraguans come to experience the love of Christ and the best week of their lives! La Finca began in 1992 as a Young Life camp and has been subsequently expanded to host 350 guests. Many projects are accomplished each year by Service and Learning Teams (mission teams) who partner with Vida Joven Nicaragua. When the camp is not being used by Vida Joven Nicaragua it hosts church groups, NGO's, and Service and Learning Teams. Every pound of coffee grown on La Finca serves the additional purpose of helping raise the necessary funds to send Nicaraguan young people to camp.

Feeding Avery Families (FAF) is a non-profit Christian organization in Avery County NC dedicated to eliminating hunger by any means possible including monetary donations, volunteerism, or food donations. We serve the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain towns of Newland, Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Crossnore and Elk Park – providing enough food for 460,000 meals in 2019!

Williams YMCA of Avery County

The Williams YMCA of Avery County has a mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a health mind, body, and spirit for all. We are grateful for the ways that our local Y serves children, elderly populations, and those facing various health challenges. We are grateful to share in their Christian mission to our community.
